by: Dr. Amandeep Kaur Mauj Bigger is not always better, and tastes aren’t everything. You might feel powerful and majestic when you take your mastiff or Great Dane out for a walk. Children screaming and hiding behind their mothers, petrified people on your side of the road giving you way. You and your huge dog walking like the king of the city. But scaring people with their size is not only what these giants do, they need space to live and run, space to spend their boundless energy. These dogs are special in their need for calcium and energy in their puppy-hood. They grow enormously and will be a bad choice if you are ignorant about their needs. They cost heavily too. Feeding, accessories and vet fees are higher for a bigger dog. They take more time to groom. And if you have all the resources for keeping a gentle giant only then are they recommended as pets.
There can be no greater pleasure than having a dog fit comfortably on your lap after a long hard day for a good unadulterated hug. Not only do small dogs cost less in maintenance, they are less dangerous with children. Whom would you prefer pulling on a leash, a Dane or a pug? But the compact canines also come with special restrictions. These are usually very dependent on their owners and get upset even if left alone for a short period of time.
They may sneak away from under the garden fence or the main door and from areas you can never imagine. And although they do not pull you o the leash they can trip you over and even get trampled under a child. It is not easy to choose a pet and neither is it easy to keep one. Take your time. A life depends on your decision.
